Morpheus Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Morpheus app ("Morpheus", "the app") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Morpheus is published by Bad Moon Studios, the developer name of Jordan Newberry ("we", "us").
The short version: your voice is transcribed on your phone and the recording is deleted right away. Only the text of your dreams, plus your email for sign-in, is stored in the cloud. We don't show ads, use analytics, sell your data, or use your dreams to train AI.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store them ourselves. Your account is given a random user ID.
Your dream entries
When you save a dream we store:
- the dream text (typed by you, or transcribed from your recording)
- the date of the dream, and when the entry was created and last edited
- the length of the recording, if you recorded one
- the mood and tags you choose, plus any custom moods you create
Microphone and voice recordings
Morpheus asks for microphone access only so you can record dreams. Recordings are saved temporarily on your device, transcribed on your device using an open-source speech-recognition model (Whisper), and deleted as soon as transcription finishes. Audio is never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
What we don't collect
Morpheus doesn't collect your location, contacts, photos, device identifiers for advertising, or usage analytics, and it doesn't contain ads or third-party tracking.
How we use your information
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To store your dream journal and sync it to the app when you sign in.
- To respond if you contact us for support.
We don't sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use your dream entries to train machine-learning models.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run the app:
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Account sign-in (Authentication) and cloud database (Cloud Firestore) | Email, user ID, dream entries. Google also processes technical data such as IP address to deliver the service. |
| Hugging Face | Hosts the speech-recognition model, which the app downloads once when you choose to enable voice transcription | A standard file download. Hugging Face sees your IP address like any website. No account or personal data is sent. |
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest on Google's servers. Database rules ensure that only your signed-in account can read or change your entries. Entries aren't end-to-end encrypted, though, so like most cloud apps, the developer can technically access stored data. We don't look at your dreams except when you ask for help with a specific problem and give permission.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and dream entries until you delete them. When you delete your account, your profile and all of your dream entries are permanently removed from our database right away.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your dream entries at any time in the app.
- Delete your account and all data in the app (tap your profile icon, then Delete account), or by following the steps on our account deletion page.
- Access or export your data, or ask any privacy question, by emailing jordan@badmoonstudios.dev.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We'll honor those requests. Just contact us.
Children
Morpheus is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
